General overview
The Integrated Production Control System™ has three components: The First Planner System™, the Last Planner® System, and The Takt Production System®. They cover the planning of a project, the project systems for running a lean project, and scheduling/controlling a project. Each system must be understood independently, and as it relates to the other two. Only when you are operating with the Integrated Production Control System™, unifying all phases and teams, are you able to reduce variation to the point of no impact, control the flow, and predict project success.
Integrated production control system™ (IPCS™)
First Planner System™
- Utilizes Lean Management Principles to facilitate effective project planning.
- Engages key stakeholders at the start of the planning cycle to ensure comprehensive pre-construction planning.
- Focuses on optimizing project processes for improved project outcomes.
- Incorporates visual management tools to enhance communication and transparncy during planning stages.
- Employs continuous improvement techniques to refine planning processes based on real-time feedback.
Takt Production System®
- Implements a scheduling methodology based on rhythm, continuity, and consistency.
- Maps workflow through timed cycle (Takt) to optimize production flow.
- Enhances efficiency by aligning production activites with a predetermined time beat.
- Integrates visual controls and standardized work procedures to support continuous flow production.
Last Planner System ®
- Enhances collaboration between project managers, supervisors and frontline workers to drive collective ownership of project goals.
- Facilitates reliable commitments planning by aligning task assignments with realistic project timelines.
- Promotes adaptive planning and problem-solving through regular coordination meetings and feedback loops.
- Supports project teams in identifying and addressing constraints to ensure project progress and success.

PROJECT PROPOSAL
As a First Planner™, the proposal process is where your planning begins. You have
the opportunity to use your Macro-level Takt Plan, Zone Maps, Logistics Plans, and
Models in the presentation as a builder to showcase how you will
help the client solve their problems.
BUILD THE TEAM & SET PARAMETERS
Build your team & set parameters involves assembling a skilled and cohesive team while establishing clear guidelines for project execution. This step is crucial for The First Planner System as it ensures that the right people are in place to handle various aspects of planning and execution. Additionally, setting parameters such as timelines, objectives, and resource allocation helps streamline the planning process and ensures alignment with project goals.
ADAPT & ENABLE THE DESIGN TEAM
Means giving your design team the freedom to adjust and be creative when facing challenges. It’s about empowering them to make decisions and find solutions that work for the project. This aspect of The First Planner System encourages flexibility and confidence in the design process, leading to better outcomes.
COMMUNICATE AND DEVELOP THE PLAN WITH BUILDERS
means working closely with the construction team to create a solid plan. It’s all about talking, sharing ideas, and putting together a roadmap that everyone understands. By involving the builders from the start, we ensure that the plan is practical and achievable. It’s like building a house together – everyone needs to be on the same page for it to work smoothly.
PREPARE TO START STRONG
involves getting everything ready to kick off the project successfully. It’s about making sure the team is organized, materials are in place, and everyone knows their roles. By laying the groundwork effectively, we set ourselves up for a smooth and efficient start to the construction process. Just like laying a strong foundation for a building, starting strong ensures a solid beginning for the project.
